Hi Friends!

In the last week I’ve been thinking about and remembering out little blog here. I’m remembering fondly the glory days of create a day and wishing maybe we had taken the steps to become an official Etsy team. Years later we are still keeping tabs on each other through our other various blogs, twitters, facebooks, etc. I just wanted to step in and say that I’m glad for that time and that all of you were brought into my life. You’ve made for a warmer, cozier, friendlier and more creative internet for me. Thanks ((hugs)).

We have started watching Centennial on NetFlix {I am still cableless and proud/happy/OK thrilled to be so} which has me thinking about the lifestyle concept.  They felt their days went by slowly as youths and much too quickly as they aged, yet they spent most of their time in quiet, leisurely pursuits living a remarkably simple life.  Interesting.  They noticed and appreciated the world around them much more it seems to me.

Scout, of course, had not seen Centennial and when I asked her how she liked it her response was that she loved it ~ I am not surprised with this ~ but, remarkably, the sentence continued with  … ‘I love how quiet it is.  They don’t play music all the time like they do in movies now.  And, you know I love music, but this is so much more enjoyable.’  Fascinating observation.

I am loving seeing your recent posts.  They’re wonderful and I am happy we are reconnecting.  These are the internet perks, having met and become friends with you all and others.  For today I thought I’d share a few of my recent flying housewife letter packet bits.  That activity does bring me back to another time, not so long ago, yet how quickly the art of handwritten letters has disappeared.  Every time I think about quitting this venture, and I think about it every day, I compel myself to redirect those ponderings.  As hard as it is to complete an order, I am always grateful when I have finished one.  Grateful for the forced resurgence of a dying art and my participation in it.  One that I love and holds, for me,  some of my few happy memories.  One that I believe in and inspires me.

It leaves me with a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction, pleasure and optimism.

Forced creativity.  What a concept.  So 2010 isn’t it?

Well, we do what we can.  I’ll take it.

I am being blizzarded! It has been ice, then sleet, and now snow here in Oklahoma. Luckily I have been able to work from home.

My photo a day for 2010 has been a challenge! Thank goodness for camera phones. A couple of times it has been 11:45 when I’ve realized I haven’t taken a picture yet! Which is why my dog has already appeared in 4 photos, so far. Yikes.

I also am trying to catch up on my food blog which I just unofficially launched – the hard launch will be soon here.  I also made myself a little website for my photography, as sort of a portfolio, which you can see here.

We were going with sort of a retro-theme for our event planning business, so I had everyone over here last week so we could take our “staff portrait” – everyone had SO MUCH FUN and I think that the pictures (mostly) came out really well:

I have to finish the website and all of the collateral for it this weekend so I’m looking forward to having that in hand as well!

I went thrifting today, for the first time in a very long time. I’m still learning where the good thrift shops are in and around my town. But today I did manage to score a few trinkets.

The first item that caught my eye was a smiling, chartreuse mug. I couldn’t tell what it was… perhaps a squatty piece of corn? I turned it upside down and etched into the bottom it said “PANCREAS”. Love. This.

Second item I found was a small silver, velvet lined box. It appears to be pretty old and had a lot of charm. I am a sucker for boxes, I have quite a few and most of them are empty.

Last two items were vintage books:
A Child Craft book with activities for kids. An example of a suggested activity: dress up like a “dirt-faced clown”. It even has tips on how to smudge up your face with a burnt cork and embellish with your mother’s lipstick.
And a LIFE book on Time. There were about 14 different topics to choose from: Science, Body, Cells, Engines, etc. but the book on time is mesmerizing! It talks about nerve impulses, carbon dating, eternal life, ancient trash, watch springs, turtle navigation, the possibility of time travel, tree rings, and on and on and on….

Speaking of time, I believe the time has come to drink some hot cocoa from a pancreas. Toodley-do!!

So, this is not my original design. It is a cross-stitch kit I bought about 7 years ago, started and abandoned all around the same time. I just finished it this morning!

It was intended to be a Christmas gift and I can’t wait to wrap it up and send it on it’s way and tell the recipient…. “I started this 7 years ago….”

I am working my way through a basket of unfinished projects. I’ll keep you posted as I cross them off my list!

Catching up! I have been lucky enough to have the opportunity to take a quick vacation home to California. Phew! It (always) goes by so fast. I’ve continued to take a picture a day and just got everything uploaded and updated. Again, phew!

Here is my picture from yesterday. The plane had just taken off out of Phoenix. It was during one of those amazing Arizona sunsets. I was playing with the camera trying to make the most of the orange glow wafting in through the window. I took a whole bunch of these, but this one is my favorite as it seems the least “posed”. And lucky me, no boogers.

Being semi away from the computer has left me missing online friends. I would LOVE if we all took the thing-a-day challenge together or some sort of thing like that. I was thinking if we all signed up to post over there everyday, then we could all use a similar signature at the end of individual posts that ties all of our posts together, so we can easily find each others posts or when someone reads one of our posts they would be linked here, or to all posts tagged “everydaycreate”. Or maybe we could just aim to post everyday over here, or if anyone else has any other ideas. I’m open. The thing I like about the ThingADay is that sooo many people participate and you get to meet so many new faces, so if we posted over there it might also breathe some fresh air and interest over here as well? Does that make sense?

I’m keeping up with my 365 project – here’s what I’ve got for the last week.

Oh and I finished a scarf that I made with some beautiful yarn Robyn spun!  I was searching for a special project to really show off her awesome work and I think this lace pattern really does the trick.
